Obituary for Doris E. Carr (Martin)

Doris E. (Martin) Carr, 94, of Enfield, CT and formerly of Swansea, MA, entered into eternal life on Friday (July 18, 2014) at St. Joseph’s Residence in Enfield, CT.
Doris was born on Aug. 7, 1919 in Fall River, MA, daughter of the late Harry J. and Margaret E. (Friery) Martin. In 1942 she was married to James E. Carr, he preceded her in death in 2007.
She was a longtime resident of Swansea, MA, Pawtucket, RI and the past 15 years in Enfield.
While in Swansea she was an active member of St. Dominic Parish and served as an Eucharistic Minister. She loved to explore new places, especially Ireland and greatly enjoyed knitting, reading, playing cards and staying aware of current events. After her arrival in Enfield she joined St. Martha Parish. She was devoted to family and took great pleasure in her grandchildren and great grandchildren; she maintained lifelong daily connection with her sister, Helen. In Enfield she most recently resided at St. Joseph’s Residence where she helped in the gift shop, the library and with others in the knitting group, provided hats and scarfs to newborns and local shelters. She is most thankful to her any friends, all of the staff and the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Doris is survived by her two loving children, Kathleen Boyle & husband Dennis of Enfield and James Carr & wife Claudette of Ellington, her cherished grandchildren, Sharon Dudley of Enfield & fiancé Earl Petrone, Dennis Boyle of Enfield, Michael Boyle of Enfield & fiancée Meghan McEvitt, David Carr of Lakewood, CO & wife Marie Davenport, and Stephen Carr of Wethersfield, CT & wife Dr. Dana Carr, her adored great grandchildren, Brittany Titus, Christopher Dudley, Shanyn Dudley and Julia Boyle, and great-great grandchild, Ryan Mosca. She is also survived by a sister Helen Roberts of Taunton, MA and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Mollohan of W. Warwick, RI & husband Burton, along with many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may gather with her family on Monday (July 21,) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Residence 1365 Enfield St. Enfield.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (July 23,) with a waking period prior to the Mass from 10:00 to 10:45 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Parish 1277 Grand Army Hwy. Swansea, MA, Burial will take place in St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River, MA.
