Elizabeth “Betsy” F. (Fortune) Reid, 80, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 23, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Hartford on February 24, 1934, Betsy was the daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes (Cosgrove) Fortune. She has resided in Enfield for fifty-eight years and was a communicant of St. Martha Church. Betsy was employed with the Town of Enfield Daycare for over twenty-five years and retired in 1999. She was a member of the Hamilton Standard Retiree’s Club. Betsy enjoyed Bingo, traveling and going to the casino, but most importantly she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Betsy is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-nine years, Edward H. Reid; her children, Edward Reid, Jr., and his wife, Raven and Thomas Reid and his wife, Patricia, both of Enfield; her four grandchildren, Dallas E. Reid, Ashley M. Reid, Shane T. Reid and Brittany E. Reid; and her special caregiver, Melinda Turner. Betsy was predeceased by her three brothers, Thomas Fortune, James Fortune and Robert Fortune and her sister Audrey Murphy. Family and friends will gather for a service in celebration of her life on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, followed by burial in St. Patrick King Street Cemetery. Betsy’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, CT 06082. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, Diabetes Foundation or Cancer Research.
