Obituary for Shirley Cross (O'Hara)

Shirley  Cross (O'Hara)
Shirley (O’Hara) Cross, entered into eternal life at the age of 91 on Wednesday (Sept. 3, 2014) at Johnson Memorial Medical Center. Shirley was born on Aug. 19, 1923 in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late George and Ellen L. (Hamel) O’Hara.
She grew up and attended schools in Hartford and was a graduate of Buckley H.S. Class of 1941. After graduating she worked at the Travelers Insurance Co. for six years. In 1945 she married Edward Larkin Cross who preceded her in death in 2005. She resided in Enfield for 60 years and was a communicant of Holy Family Church for 48 years. In 1974 she reentered the work force with G. Fox Co. Shirley was employed by G. Fox now Macy’s for over 25years until her retirement. She loved to read, made the best apple pies ever and enjoyed the friendship and support of many close friends.
Shirley is survived by her five children, Robert Cross & wife Anne of Manchester, Edward Cross & wife Louise of Amherst, NH, William Cross & wife Carol of Enfield, Maureen Nieroda of New Bedford, MA and Aileen (Cross) Mottolese & husband Frank of Somers, her 12 beloved grandchildren and 3 cherished great-grandchildren, her sister Lenore Halloran of Manchester. The last two years of her life she was able to spend in her home thanks to her granddaughter Melinda Cross and her partner Mark Dempsey. The family would like to express its appreciation to the caring staff at Johnson Memorial Medical Center and its hospice program who provided superb care during her hospitalization. Mom “You will be missed and we love you”.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday September 9, 2014 in Holy Family Church 23 Simon Rd. in Enfield. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s King St. Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Home & Community Health Services, Inc. Hospice Program, P.O. Box 1199 Enfield, CT 06083-1199.
