Obituary for James E. Henderson

James E.  Henderson
James “Jim” E. Henderson, 71, of Enfield, died peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Augusta, Georgia on May 10, 1944, Jim was the son of the late Earl T. and Alberta V. (Wood) Henderson. Jim has resided in Enfield since 1968 and was a communicant of St. Bernard Church. He was employed by the State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation for thirty-three years as a Civil Engineer and retired in 1997. Jim was the District Deputy for the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and was a member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E 2222 of Enfield where he served as Exalted Ruler, Secretary to the Lodge, Chairman of the Youth Activities and Chairman of the Scholarship Fund for many years. Jim was a member of the Moose Lodge 1525 and also a volunteer for the CERT program here in Enfield. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and was an avid follower of UCONN Basketball. Jim and Joyce enjoyed many various trips and cruises with family and friends. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his family and hosting family gatherings at the family cottage in Massena, NY. He and his wife, Joyce looked forward to hosting the family reunions at the cottage and this 4th of July would have marked the 80th Family Reunion. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Joyce A. (Kwasney) Henderson; his daughters, Karen M. Dix and her husband, Robert of Salisbury, NC, Kim A. Carbonell of Punta Gorda, FL, and Laurie A. Dingman and her husband, Patrick of Enfield; five grandchildren, Nathan Carbonell, Nicole Carbonell, Kirsten Fowler, Patrick Dingman, Jr., and Joseph Dingman; his sister, Anne Mills of West Virginia; two nieces, a nephew, and many extended family members and friends. Family and friends will gather on Thursday, July 2, 2015 by 9:15 a.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels for a procession to St. Bernard Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by burial in Hazardville Cemetery. Jim’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with an Elk’s Ritual to be held at 7:30 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, CT 06082. In Lieu of flowers Memorial Donations may be made to the Enfield Elks #2222 John & Rose Alberici Scholarship Fund or the Enfield Elks #2222 Youth Activity Fund.
