Robert  R.  Sokol, Sr.
Robert R. Sokol, Sr., 84, of Enfield, entered into eternal life on Thursday April 14, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Rose T. (Graci) Sokol. Robert was born on Oct. 8, 1931 in Stafford, CT, the son of the late Michael and Sadie (Cybulski) Sokol. He grew up in Thompsonville Village and South Shaker Farm in Enfield. Robert was a graduate of Enfield H.S. Class of 1950, where he excelled in all sports. A team member of the 1948 State football champions, he was inducted into the Enfield Sports Hall of Fame. He retired from the State of CT Department of Corrections after many years of service. Robert served his country proudly with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting, was a charter member of the Enfield Hunters Club and breeder of A.K.C. Beagles, also had a passion of gardening and sharing his produce with friends. He was a lifetime member of National Antique Bottle Collectors Museum and Somers Antique Bottle Club and a lifetime member of the Enfield Historical Society and honored with the Fellow Award for his work to help preserve Enfield History.
Besides his wife of 61 years, Rose, he was the proud father of two sons and a daughter; David Sokol and his wife Diane, Robert R. Sokol, Jr. and his wife Michele and Julie Colegrove and her husband David, his six grandchildren; Melissa Fay, & husband Eric, Jessica Sokol Sullivan & husband Kevin, Lauren Shaw & husband David, Joshua Sokol & partner Wendy Harper, David Colegrove, Jr & wife Karen, and Sara Colegrove, his beloved great grandchildren; MacKenzie & Tyler Fay, Jackson Sokol and Owen Colegrove. He also is survived by a special niece Nancy Pelkey and her family along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers; Michael and Walter Sokol and a sister; Maryann Carzello. The Sokol family is very grateful for the Special Care given Bob by the staff of Parkway and Masonic Care Partners Hospice.
Robert’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday Apr. 17, 2016 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Funeral Service will take place on Monday Apr. 18, 2016 with the funeral procession forming at 9:00 am from the funeral home to St. Patrick Church, Enfield for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am.Interment with military honors will follow in the Enfield Street Cemetery, Enfield.
